NELFUND is changing the lives of many Nigerian students who once feared tuition fees.
Recently, Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Akintunde Sawyerr revealed that the agency has disbursed ₦116 billion to support students nationwide.

NELFUND Empowers Students
Specifically, it has paid ₦65 billion directly to 239 public tertiary institutions for approved tuition fees.
In addition, it has given ₦51 billion directly to students as monthly upkeep allowances to support living costs.
So far, the programme has helped 624,000 students from over one million loan applications submitted nationwide.
Sawyerr emphasised that the scheme actively ensures no Nigerian loses access to education due to lack of funds.
Moreover, daily applications continue to pour in, showing the programme’s growing impact on students’ academic journeys.

The loan initiative actively supports universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across Nigeria’s diverse regions.
Consequently, many students reported relief, saying they can now focus on studying instead of worrying about fees.
Some students even spend the upkeep allowances on books, transport, and other essential learning resources.

Sawyerr highlighted that the initiative serves as a flagship social investment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Therefore, it actively removes financial barriers, giving every student a fair chance at tertiary education.
With NELFUND, thousands of young Nigerians now view tertiary education as achievable, not just a dream.
