Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji has weighed in on a controversial social media post urging Igbo men to stop marrying Igbo women and seek wives from other African countries.

The debate began when a photo of a Rwandan woman, reportedly engaged to a man from Anambra, circulated online.
An Igbo man reshared the photo with a caption:
“This is what I’m talking about! Dear Igbo men, instead of marrying Igbo women who’ll falsely accuse you of rape, better look outside for a wife.”
“Go to East Africa, especially Rwanda, and pick a damsel.”
“They’re all over social media and you can link up with them.”
Genevieve Nnaji responded sharply, stating:
“In other words, instead of checking yourself and taking accountability, go for the unsuspecting and carry on with your evil. Got it.”
Some social media users suggested the original tweet targeted false rape accusations, not Igbo women as a whole.
One user commented, “His tweet was clearly against false rape accusers, but instead of holding the evil women accountable and demanding change, you chose to tweet this?”
Genevieve replied, emphasising the importance of nuance:
“The same way a woman can’t tell an abusive man apart from a good one is the same way you shouldn’t say avoid all Igbo women.”
‘Not all women’.”
