Germany has renewed its partnership with ECOWAS, pledging €49 million to boost peace and development.

Following bilateral talks at ECOWAS headquarters in Abuja, both sides agreed on new cooperation goals.

Germany Boosts West African Partnership

Germany will now actively support peace, security, economic growth, and healthcare across West Africa.

Moreover, the agreement demonstrates both sides’ shared commitment to deepening cooperation and driving regional progress.

Focus On Security And Growth

Germany’s BMZ Africa Director, Christoph Rauh, led the delegation to the ECOWAS Commission.

He emphasised that Germany will continue prioritising peace and security as central pillars of cooperation.

Additionally, Rauh highlighted that the new phase will actively stimulate economic and private sector development.

“We want to promote sustainable growth and empower local institutions,” Rauh stated, reinforcing Germany’s hands-on approach.

Shared Vision For Regional Stability

Meanwhile, ECOWAS Vice-President Damtien Tchintchibidja explained how the talks aligned with ECOWAS’ long-term strategy.

ECOWAS President Omar Touray expressed deep gratitude to Germany for continuing to trust and partner with the bloc.

He added that Germany’s pledge reflects confidence in ECOWAS’ leadership and peacebuilding efforts.

Touray also reaffirmed that the Commission will actively foster mutual respect and shared responsibility.

Finally, he concluded, “This partnership proves that regional stability and prosperity arise through collaboration.”
