Veteran Beninese superstar and Grammy-winning singer, Angelique Kidjo, has explained why she chooses not to make music that praises politicians or aligns with political parties.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Female Poets Society podcast, Kidjo said political power is temporary.

She stresses that artistes who tie their creativity to politicians risk losing their relevance once the government changes.
She shared a lesson from her father, advising musicians to remain independent and true to their voice rather than serving those in power.
According to her, artistes should represent the people, not political interests, because when power shifts, those who relied on political loyalty often fade with the regime.
