Nigerian producer and music executive Don Jazzy has revealed that he nearly gave up on music and moved abroad following the breakup of Mo’Hits Records in 2012.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, the Mavin Records boss said the label’s abrupt end, caused by disagreements between him and co-founder D’banj, left him deeply discouraged.
However, he credited his friends for convincing him to stay in Nigeria and rebuild his career.
“When Mo’Hits ended, I thought that was it. I almost packed up to move abroad. But friends encouraged me to stay and start again, and Mavin Records was born.”
Since then, I’ve learned not to let anything break me,” Don Jazzy said.
After Mo’Hits disbanded, Don Jazzy went on to establish Mavin Records, which became home to several of the former Mo’Hits stars, including Wande Coal, Dr SID, and D’Prince.
The label later introduced new talents such as Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, and Di’ja.
Today, Mavin Records boasts a successful roster featuring Rema, Ayra Starr, Ladipoe, Crayon, Magixx, Boy Spyce, Bayanni, Johnny Drille, and DJ Big N.
In 2024, Universal Music Group acquired a majority stake in Mavin Global, a move that has further boosted the label’s global expansion.
