American sculptor Jackie Ferrara has died at the age of 95 after choosing to end her life through assisted dying.
According to her estate and legacy adviser, Tina Hejtmanek, Ferrara passed away on Wednesday, October 22, in Basel, Switzerland, at Pegasos

This is a nonprofit organisation that allows assisted dying for individuals who are not terminally ill.
In a final interview with The New York Times, Ferrara revealed that although she was in “good health,” she felt ready to go, expressing a lifelong desire for independence.
Reflecting on her decision, she said: “I don’t want a housekeeper. I never wanted anybody. I was married three times. That’s enough.”
Ferrara’s decision followed two falls within the past year, which served as a reminder of her wish not to rely on others for care.
Medical aid in dying (MAID) is legal in several U.S. states
These includes California, Oregon, Colorado, and New Jersey, New York does not permit it
Also, Ferrara’s healthy condition meant she wouldn’t have qualified for the procedure anywhere in the United States.

Her passing has sparked conversations about autonomy, aging, and end-of-life choice.
Many are praising her for living and leaving on her own terms.
