President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a sweeping reorganisation of Nigeria’s military hierarchy.
He appointed new service chiefs in a bid to strengthen the country’s security architecture.

Despite mounting calls for change within the police force, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun retains his position.
This is as confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication.
Under the new structure, General Olufemi Oluyede replaces General Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff.
Also, Major-General W. Shaibu assumes office as the Chief of Army Staff.
Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke has been appointed Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas takes over as the Chief of Naval Staff.
The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, will remain in his position.
This is ensures continuity in intelligence operations amid the leadership transition.
President Tinubu, in his message of appreciation, commended the outgoing service chiefs for their dedication and service to national security.
Also, he urges the new appointees to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and unity in the discharge of their duties.
“All appointments take immediate effect,” the statement concluded.
