On October 21, 2025, OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT Atlas, a browser built around its AI technology.
With this launch, the company aims to transform how people browse the web.

Instead of a traditional address bar, Atlas puts ChatGPT at the centre of users’ browsing experience.
As a result, users no longer switch tabs or copy text; the AI guides them while they explore websites.
Smart Features
Moreover, paid subscribers can activate agent mode, allowing ChatGPT to search, analyse, and automate tasks automatically.
In addition, a feature called ‘browser memories’ lets the AI remember information from previously visited websites, enhancing the browsing experience.

OpenAI Launch ChatGPT Atlas
To ease the transition, OpenAI allows users to import bookmarks, passwords, and browsing history from their current browsers.
Meanwhile, Chrome still controls almost 72% of the global browser market in September 2025, presenting a clear challenge.
However, OpenAI continues to expand rapidly: ChatGPT now engages 800 million weekly active users worldwide.
Supporting this growth, the company acquired AI coding tool Windsurf and product-testing firm Statsig, strengthening its technology and testing capabilities.
Furthermore, OpenAI signed a $300 billion, five-year cloud deal with Oracle, securing the computing power Atlas needs.
Looking ahead, the company plans to release Windows, iOS, and Android versions, aiming to make Atlas a platform-wide tool.
