Nigerian comedian and actor, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has cautioned Nigerians against falling into the trap of social media comparison.

He warns that much of what people see online is staged, exaggerated, and far from reality.

In a video shared on his Instagram page on Thursday, the comedian reflected on how social media often glorifies a distorted version of life

According to AY, many of the so-called “perfect lives” people admire are carefully orchestrated to project an illusion of wealth and happiness.

Also, he revealed that some influencers and entertainers even go as far as borrowing clothes.

Also, posing in hotel lobbies, or using other people’s cars to appear rich and accomplished.

Many of these celebrities you envy are living on borrowed wigs, borrowed outfits, and borrowed lifestyles,” he said. “Some take pictures in hotel lobbies and call them their new homes, while others pose with cars that don’t belong to them. Social media is like a movie set — not everything you see online is real.”

AY urged his followers to avoid being misled by appearances.

He advisies them to focus on their own journey, celebrate progress, and choose authenticity over imitation.

Also, he emphasised that genuine success comes from growth, discipline, and patience, not comparison or pretense.

The comedian concluded his message by encouraging fans to “grow at their own pace” and prioritise contentment.
