Nigerian singer and actor, Idowu Adeyemi, popularly known as Yhemolee, has voiced his frustration over the rising culture of begging on social media platforms.
He describes the situation as “pathetic and out of control.”

In a recent post, the entertainer lamented that social media has gradually transformed from a space meant for networking and creativity into what he described as a “digital begging site.”
According to Yhemolee, many individuals have now mastered the act of online begging, often requesting money from people they barely know.
He further noted that the only difference between street beggars and those online is access to internet data.
“It’s no longer news that social media isn’t social media anymore. It’s now a begging site. The only difference is that unlike the beggars on the road, the beggars on the internet have data,” Yhemolee stated.
He added humorously that whenever people post pictures, the first few comments are usually filled with account numbers, making genuine engagement rare.
“These days, when you post a picture, the first ten comments are account numbers. My major problem is those who have a PhD in begging. Please omit all those begging from my own picture,” he said.
Yhemolee rose to fame after his hit song “Mon Cheri” featuring Chinko Ekun and Asake,
He has also featured in several Nollywood productions including “Gangs of Lagos” and “Alakada: Bad and Boujee.”
His comments have sparked mixed reactions online.
