Renowned gospel singer and worship leader Nathaniel Bassey has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late evangelist, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, describing him as “a man who knew the ways of the spirit.”

In an emotional post shared on Instagram, Bassey known for worship anthems like “Imela” and the “Hallelujah Challenge” reflected on the profound impact Ukpai had on his spiritual journey and ministry.

He affectionately referred to the late preacher as “Papa Uma,” recalling lessons that continue to shape his life.

“Oh! Dr Uma! Oh Papa Uma! Sometimes you wish some people would never die. What a man!” Bassey wrote.

“Just a few days ago, I was inspired to lead multitudes in an evening fast something I learnt from you and even mentioned so. You called me SON. What a privilege.”

“A man of God indeed. One of great power, immense stature, and impact. A man who knew the ways of the Spirit, who knew how to deploy praise and worship in spiritual warfare and the supernatural.”

“We ache, but heaven rejoices. Good night, papa.

Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the age of 80. His death was announced by his family on Monday, October 13, 2025, sparking widespread mourning across Nigeria’s Christian community.
