The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared a two-week warning strike.
He cited the federal government’s continued failure to meet its long-standing demands.

ASUU President, Chris Piwuna, made the announcement on Sunday during a press briefing held at the union’s national headquarters, University of Abuja.
Also, he revealed that the strike will commence on October 13 and will be observed across all ASUU chapters nationwide.
According to Piwuna, the union’s decision followed the government’s repeated delays and unresponsiveness despite multiple rounds of negotiations.
He noted that although the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, had previously appealed for patience
Also, they assured ASUU that talks were nearing conclusion, no tangible progress was made.
“The problem with this government is that they are slow in responding to our demands,” Piwuna said.
“When we were about to embark on strike action, we met in Sokoto and they asked for three weeks, which we granted. During those three weeks, we never heard a word from them until the time elapsed.”
The ASUU president stressed that the only way to avert a prolonged strike is for the federal government to take decisive action on the union’s key demands
These includes improved university funding, payment of withheld salaries, and implementation of prior agreements.
