Shoppers in Abuja were surprised when NAFDAC closed two Chinese-owned supermarkets in Jabi and eight cosmetics shops in Wuse Market.
The agency discovered serious breaches of Nigerian regulations on product safety, labelling, and registration during its enforcement operation.

NAFDAC’s Deputy Director of Public Relations, Adegboyega Osiyemi, said officers confiscated unregistered goods worth over ₦170 million.
NAFDAC’s Enforcement Directorate worked with the Federal Task Force on Counterfeit Medicines, led by Assistant Chief Regulatory Officer Musa Embugushiki.
Investigators found supermarkets on Mike Akhigbe Way and Ebitu Ukiwe Street selling unregistered food items and products labelled only in Chinese.
One manager initially denied trading, claiming the store had not opened, but the team confirmed it was fully operational.
