On the dawn of October 1, 1960, the green and white flag of a newly independent Nigeria rose high.
It symbolises the birth of a nation filled with hope, unity, and dreams of greatness.

Sixty-five years later, that spirit of independence continues to echo in the hearts of millions of Nigerians across the world.
To mark this historic milestone, the Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday in celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
The announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
Dr Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora.
He urges them to remain steadfast in upholding the values of patriotism, unity, and resilience that have carried the nation since independence.
Also, he called on citizens to place confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He described as a blueprint for national rebirth, economic transformation, and shared prosperity.
The minister further expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future.
Also, he assured that the country would continue on its path of peace, progress, and development with the collective commitment of its people.
