Nigeria’s digital economy will take centre stage this September as regulators and banks converge in Lagos for the 35th Finance Correspondents Association of Nigeria (FICAN) Conference.

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Export-Import (NEXIM) Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA) and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) will lead the discussions, showing the urgency of preparing taxation, banking and finance for a digital-first future.
In addition, major players such as Zenith Bank, First City Monument Bank, Unity Bank and Stanbic IBTC have thrown their weight behind the gathering, strengthening its significance.
Insights And Strategies
This year, the conference adopts the theme “Bracing for the Digital Economy in Nigeria: Taxation, Banking and Finance.”
To open the dialogue, executive chairman of FIRS, Zacch Adedeji, will deliver the keynote and outline how technology can drive stronger tax administration and higher government revenue.
Furthermore, group managing director of UBA, and Babatunde Olofin, chief executive of Moniepoint Microfinance Bank, Oliver Alawuba, will present strategies to build inclusive, technology-driven financial services.

Moreover, after the keynote sessions, a panel will drive the conversation deeper.
However, representatives from NIBSS, NDIC, NAIA, AMCON, Dangote Group, PalmPay, Nigeria Customs Service and Lagos Business School’s Yinka David-West will connect policy, industry and academic perspectives to explore practical solutions.
Building Capacity, Setting Agenda
Beyond the presentations, FICAN intends to use the event to sharpen the skills of financial journalists and create a platform where regulators, bankers and innovators set the digital agenda.
Furthermore, President Chima Titus Nwokoji emphasises, the association wants journalists to report with deeper insight while helping stakeholders chart Nigeria’s economic future.
By marking its 35th anniversary with this gathering, FICAN positions the conference as a catalyst for shaping Nigeria’s digital roadmap.
