The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE Internal), with 60.26 percent of candidates securing five credits including Mathematics and English Language.

Out of 1,367,210 candidates who registered for the examination, 1,358,339 eventually sat for it.

Of this number, 818,492 candidates earned five credits including English and Mathematics, while 1,144,496 candidates representing 84.26 percent obtained five credits irrespective of Mathematics and English.

Special-Needs Candidates

A total of 1,622 special-needs candidates took part in the examination.

These included 941 with hearing impairment, 191 with visual impairment, and others with conditions such as Down syndrome and autism.

Decline in Examination Malpractice

The council reported that 3,878 candidates were involved in malpractice during the 2025 exams, a sharp decline from 10,094 cases recorded in 2024 marking a 61.6 percent reduction.

Examination Timeline

The June/July SSCE was conducted between June 16 and July 25, 2025.

NECO released the results 54 days after the last paper was written.

Regional Performance

Kano State led in the number of candidates who achieved five credits including English and Mathematics, followed closely by Lagos and Oyo States.

However, some centres recorded very poor results, with one centre having no candidate meeting the benchmark.

Trend Analysis

The pass rate continues to hover around 60 percent, similar to recent years 60.55 percent in 2024, 61.60 percent in 2023, and 60 percent in 2022.
