Manchester City paid tribute to former boxing world champion Ricky Hatton ahead of their Premier League clash with Manchester United, following confirmation of his death at the age of 46.

Former World Boxing Champion Ricky Hatton Dies At 46

Ricky Hatton was found dead on Sunday, September 14, 2025, was renowned not only for his achievements in the ring but also for his unwavering support of City.

Before kick-off at the Etihad Stadium, a minute’s applause was held in Hatton’s memory, with both sets of players wearing black armbands. Stadium screens displayed his image as fans joined in an emotional ovation, recognising a man who embodied Manchester pride and passion.

Hatton’s bond with the club was lifelong he often wore sky-blue colours into the ring, walked out to City’s anthem Blue Moon, and once fought at the Etihad in 2008.

City described him as “one of our most loved supporters,” while players and fans alike hailed him as a true sporting icon whose legacy stretched beyond boxing.
