The Federal Government has taken a hard stance and ordered strict sanctions on Nigerian airlines that delay or cancel flights without genuine reasons.

NCAA Issues Warning
On Monday, spokesperson for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Michael Achimugu, issued the directive in a post on X.
He warned that airlines can no longer abandon passengers while forcing NCAA officials to manage the chaos.
“Operators face challenges, yes.
But if you choose this business, you must run it well,” Achimugu declared.
“Don’t you want to be called ‘world class’? Don’t you want to compete at the highest level? If not for the passengers, then at least for your own pride.”

Furthermore, he condemned airlines for exposing NCAA staff to unnecessary risks as they protect passengers’ rights.
He vowed that the authority will use the “fullest measures possible” whenever airlines break the rules.
“We will not abandon our regulations,” he insisted.
Name And Shame Policy
In addition, the Federal Government directed the NCAA to “name and shame” offending airlines.
Although not every disruption stems from operators, Achimugu emphasised that carriers must follow the rules whenever delays or cancellations occur.
From now on, the NCAA will immediately publish the names of airlines that break regulations.
Officials say the move will restore discipline and accountability in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
