Famous Nigerian songstress Tiwa Savage has spoken out in defence of Tems, after her name was left out of the much-discussed Afrobeats ‘Big 3’ list.
The term ‘Big 3’ is commonly used to describe the male trio – Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid

They are often hailed as Nigeria’s biggest global Afrobeats exports.
However, during an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, Tiwa Savage questioned the criteria used in compiling the list.
She argues that it unfairly sidelines female artistes who have made equally outstanding contributions to the genre.
According to her, the industry’s narrative often overlooks the success of women in Afrobeats, particularly Tems, who has achieved groundbreaking milestones on the global stage.
“Think about it, certain types of artistes get paid more. So, they get the opportunity to spend more on influencers and radio play, which makes their music more visible.
“Also, I feel like it is unfair to have a conversation about the Top 3 and not mention someone like Tems. Are you serious?” Tiwa Savage asked.
Tems gained worldwide fame in 2020 after her collaboration with Wizkid on ‘Essence’
She has continued to rise in global recognition.
Also, she won her first Grammy Award in 2023 for her contribution to ‘Wait For U’ alongside Future and Drake, and in 2025
Tems clinched her second Grammy in the ‘Best African Performance’ category.
