President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially begun his 2025 annual leave, a 10-working-day vacation that will see him spend time in France and the UK.

While some Nigerians are asking why, here are key reasons behind the president’s annual break:
1. To Rest and Recharge
Leading a nation is a 24/7 responsibility. Annual leave gives the president time to rest, recover, and maintain his health so he can return to work refreshed.
2. Stress Relief from Governance
From economic reforms to security challenges, the presidency comes with constant pressure.
Taking short breaks helps reduce stress and prevent burnout.
3. A Common Global Practice
World leaders in the US, UK, and other countries also take official vacations.
It’s a normal tradition that shows leadership is a human job requiring downtime.
4. Space for Vice President and Cabinet to Act
When the president is on leave, the vice president and ministers handle day-to-day matters.
This strengthens teamwork in governance and shows that leadership is not one-man work.
5. Opportunities Abroad
Beyond rest, time abroad may allow for quiet diplomacy, private consultations, or routine medical checks things often done away from the public eye.
President Tinubu is expected back in Abuja after the 10 working days to resume official duties.
