Canadian singer Abel Tesfaye, popularly known as The Weeknd, is on the verge of making streaming history as his hit single Blinding Lights approaches five billion streams on Spotify a milestone no other song has ever reached.

Released in November 2019 as the second single from his album After Hours, the track quickly rose to global acclaim, spending four consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
It went on to make history as the first song to remain in the chart’s top 10 for an entire year.
In 2021, Billboard crowned Blinding Lights the Greatest Hot 100 Song of All Time, cementing its legacy as one of the most successful tracks ever recorded.
As of mid-2025, Blinding Lights holds the record as the most-streamed song on Spotify, with over 4.8 billion plays.
While no track has yet crossed the five-billion mark, other songs in the top tier include Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You (around 4.3 billion streams), The Weeknd’s own Starboy featuring Daft Punk (over 3.8 billion), Lewis Capaldi’s Someone You Loved, Harry Styles’ As It Was, and Post Malone & Swae Lee’s Sunflower, all sitting above the three-billion threshold.
