Nigeria has lost one of its most respected police chiefs as former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and ex-chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Solomon Ehigiator Arase, passed away at the age of 69.
Family sources confirmed that Arase died in an Abuja hospital after battling an undisclosed ailment.

Arase became Nigeria’s 18th Inspector-General of Police, served from April 2015 to June 2016 before retiring from active duty.
In January 2023, he was appointed as chairman of the PSC by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
However, his tenure was cut short when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu relieved him of the position in June 2024.
Before rising to the pinnacle of his career, Arase distinguished himself in various key roles.
He was once Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, later becoming Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Intelligence.
