Afrobeats singer Ikuforiji Olaitan, popularly known as Oxlade, has called on his colleagues to increase the duration of their songs.

Taking to his X handle on Thursday, August 28, 2025, the ‘Kulosa’ crooner wrote: “Bring back 5 minutes songs.”
His post sparked conversations among fans, with many supporting his advocacy.
In recent years, the Nigerian music industry has witnessed a growing trend of shorter tracks, often lasting just over two minutes.
This approach, popularised by stars like Wizkid and Mr Eazi, gained further momentum when newcomers such as Rema, Joeboy, Omah Lay, Ayra Starr, and others embraced the style between 2019 and 2021.
In contrast, South African Amapiano songs typically run over seven minutes.
Interestingly, Oxlade himself had followed the short-song trend. His 2022 hit single, ‘Kulosa’, runs for just 2 minutes and 31 seconds.
