Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has fired back at former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, after the politician threatened legal action over alleged defamatory social media posts.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Adeyanju maintained that Obi, as a public figure, cannot escape criticism.

“If Peter Obi doesn’t want to be criticized, he should go back to his house and eat jollof rice. Anyone who puts themselves in public office must be criticized, scrutinised, and even insulted,” Adeyanju said.
Peter Obi’s legal team, led by the law firm of Alex Ejesieme and Co., had earlier issued a letter demanding Adeyanju retract his statements.
Also, the letter referenced multiple posts on X and Facebook, where Adeyanju allegedly branded Obi “a religious bigot, a fraud, a product of bad upbringing, a scam, and a thief.”
The letter further instructed Adeyanju to delete all such posts and publish a “full, unreserved and public apology” across his social media handles as well as in three national dailies.

Deji Adeyanju, however, insists that criticism comes with public service.
Also, he stresses that Peter Obi must tolerate dissenting opinions rather than resorting to legal threats.
