Born Ismaila Dele Bello on August 24, 1942, in Iseyin, Oyo State, Bello became a leading figure in Juju music during the 1970s and 1980s as a singer, guitarist, and band leader.

Before fully committing to music, Bello worked as an electronic technician. In 1976, he founded Ahuja Bello and His Golden Eagles Band, which quickly rose to dominate the Juju scene.

He was celebrated for his energetic stage performances and hit songs like Awa ti Danfo and Ariya ti de.

In 1979, Bello traveled to London to record Ahuja in London, an experience that saw him interact with international stars, including reggae icon Bob Marley.

Although his career was disrupted by a serious accident on July 24, 1982, just weeks before his 40th birthday, Bello’s influence and legacy in Nigerian music remained strong, cementing his place among the country’s most revered artistes.
