In Sagamu, Ogun State, Emzor Pharmaceutical Industries Limited is quietly transforming healthcare in Nigeria and across West Africa.

What Stella Chinyelu Okoli began in 1977 as a modest pharmacy has grown into a pan-African pharmaceutical powerhouse, combining innovation, quality, and self-reliance.
Pioneering Local API Production
Beyond finance, Emzor drives local API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) production with a $23 million state-of-the-art facility—the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa.
By reducing Nigeria’s reliance on imported drugs, the plant lowers production costs for essential medicines like antimalarials and HIV/AIDS antiretrovirals and strengthens local research.
Although regulatory and fiscal challenges delayed its opening to early 2026, the company has rapidly advanced construction: it completed over 90% of civil works, installed key equipment, and developed five antimalarial APIs in its R&D lab.

Consequently, it reinforced its credibility and maintained its A- investment grade rating from GCR.
Commitment To Quality And Reach
Furthermore, Emzor ensures quality and safety through advanced ERP and track-and-trace systems that monitor the supply chain and eliminate counterfeit medicines.
Moreover, today, the company manufactures over 200 registered products, supplies all Nigerian states, and exports directly to Liberia and Sierra Leone.
Government policies also support Emzor’s growth.
By exempting pharmaceutical raw materials from import duties and VAT and enforcing the Nigeria-First Policy to prioritise local goods, authorities enhance production and market access.
Through timely repayment of its debut commercial paper and pioneering the landmark API facility, Emzor demonstrates financial discipline, technological innovation, and regional impact.
In short, the company produces more than medicines—it actively builds resilient, accessible healthcare across Africa, proving that a single pharmacy can evolve into a leading pan-African pharmaceutical force.
