Nigerian dancer and choreographer, Kafayat Shafau, popularly known as Kaffy, has shared her experience with the challenges of dating as a single mother.
Speaking as a guest on the popular podcast The Honest Bunch, Kaffy, who is divorced from her ex-husband Joseph Ameh, revealed that some men have openly told her they cannot date her because she has two children.
“I have had someone tell me because I am a single mother he cannot think about dating me because I have two children,” she said.
Kaffy questioned the stigma attached to divorced women, arguing that a woman who has been through a failed marriage and worked on herself could even be a better partner.
“What is the guarantee that two single people today are not going to be divorced people tomorrow? Why do people feel like they must marry someone ‘fresh’? Both of you are going into the same data that says over 70% of marriages crash,” she added.
The award-winning dancer also spoke about misconceptions around love, stressing that real love should not be confused with excitement or anxiety.
“Do you know that a lot of butterflies in the tummy is a trauma response? Real love brings peace, not butterflies. Real love is not supposed to make you anxious,” she explained.
