Dangote Cement Plc has promised full medical support and compensation for Ruth Otabor, sister of former BBNaija housemate Phyna and a fresh graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, who was severely injured in a recent accident involving one of the company’s trucks.
Company Officials Visit Scene and Hospital
In a statement on Thursday, August 14, 2025, the company said senior officials and its insurance team immediately visited the scene of the accident in Auchi, met with law enforcement authorities, and later went to see the victim and her family at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Edo State.
“Following the recent road accident in Auchi involving one of our trucks, senior officials from Dangote Cement Plc, together with our insurance team, promptly visited the scene, engaged with law enforcement authorities, and visited the victim and her family,” the statement read.
The company said the visit reflects its “unwavering commitment to the well-being of those affected” and confirmed it is ensuring comprehensive medical care and appropriate compensation in line with Dangote Group’s welfare policy.
Victim Loses Leg, Faces Further Surgery
The accident left Otabor identified by police as Otanor Ruth Bodom with one leg amputated.
Doctors have warned her other leg may also require amputation.
The motorcycle rider carrying her at the time of the crash is also reported to be in critical condition.
Police Confirm Driver’s Court Appearance
The Edo State Police Command confirmed that the truck driver, alleged to be underage and unlicensed, has been charged to court. He pleaded guilty to three of the four counts against him.
The case has been adjourned to 21 August for further hearing.
