Davido Opens Up On How Losing His Son Transformed His Life

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up on how the heartbreaking loss of his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, in October 2022 reshaped his outlook on life and music.

The singer and his wife, Chioma, were left devastated when Ifeanyi drowned in a swimming pool at their Banana Island residence in Lagos State.

Speaking in a recent interview with ABC News’ Rocsi Diaz, Davido revealed that the tragedy forced him to re-evaluate his priorities both personally and professionally.

Stepping away after losing my son and being able to look back into my career gave me a refocus on how I wanted to move forward. It changed my life,” he said.

Despite the grief, Davido expressed pride in how he and Chioma handled the tragedy.

He credited their resilience as an inspiration to many.

Also, he recalled numerous encounters with fans who approached him in airports and public spaces to thank him for motivating them to stay strong during their own struggles.

“I was telling my wife the other day that I’m proud of how we bounced back. Now, we’ve got twins – they’re big and shouting everywhere. For us to be able to go through the loss of our son and bounce back in such a major way is huge,” he added.

Davido, who has long been a beacon of African music on the global stage, said the experience has not only deepened his appreciation for family but also refined his approach to his career.
