The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Mike Achimugu, has explained why singer KWAM1 has not been arraigned in court like the Ibom Air passenger described as “unruly.”
Speaking on Channels TV on Monday, August 11, 2025, Achimugu said the difference lies in the actions taken by the airlines involved.

According to him, in KWAM1’s case, the airline did not press charges, while Ibom Air immediately exercised its right to take the matter to court after the incident involving Ms Emmanson.
“The airline in the singer’s case did not activate its right to take the passenger to court. As a result, the NCAA petitioned relevant authorities to prosecute the passenger and issued an advisory to the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) to have the passenger banned,” he said.
Achimugu stressed that the NCAA does not have the power to prosecute offenders. He added that the agency has petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation and the police for KWAM1 to face prosecution.
He further noted that in the Ibom Air incident, the swift legal action was likely because a staff member had been assaulted, prompting the airline to take the matter to court without the NCAA’s involvement.
