The 2027 election may still be far, but trust Nigerian politicians, the race has already begun. For the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Senate President David Mark, uniting against the President Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) may as well be the only salvation.

As we speak, these leaders have united against the APC in a significant step towards forming a strong coalition platform to challenge the ruling party’s growing dominance in Nigerian politics.

Indeed, this move echoes hope of a new chapter in the country’s political landscape.

Heatwave Of Threats And Blackmail

The PDP leaders accused the APC government of using threats, blackmail, and patronage to force members to abandon the party.

According to the main opposition: “The heatwave unleashed by the APC Federal Government through threats, blackmail and patronage has forced elected officers in government to abandon the PDP”.

To Reclaim Political Power

Nevertheless, the PDP leaders called on like-minded individuals to unite around a shared national agenda.

“The meeting encourages all well-meaning PDP members and other patriotic Nigerians to join the coalition,” a statement issued after the meeting said.

By uniting, the PDP leaders aim to reclaim political power and restore the country’s diminishing global image.

The communique emphasised the need for unity among coalition partners based on shared commitment to national unity, democratic values, and institutional reform

All coalition partners must be united on the issues of national unity, democracy, national security, national economy, and the political will to stamp out corruption embedded in our institutions.”

The PDP’s determination to challenge the APC’s grip on power is clear.

By uniting against the APC, the PDP leaders aim to reclaim political power and restore the country’s economic stability.

However, the PDP leaders are determined to work together to reclaim political power and restore the country’s economic stability.

With a united front, they believe they could challenge the APC’s dominance and bring about positive change in Nigeria

Most importantly, the PDP’s declaration marks a significant turning point in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
