CapCut, one of the world’s most popular video-editing apps owned by ByteDance, has updated its Terms of Service, and many content creators are not happy.
The new policy gives CapCut and its partners the right to use any content you upload including videos, audio, photos, even your face for free, forever, and for any purpose.

The policy, which took effect on June 12, 2025, states that by using the app, you grant CapCut a worldwide, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable licence to your content.
This includes the right to use your content in advertising, promotions, and more even after you delete your account or stop using the app.
What’s Causing the Concern?
Under the new terms:
CapCut can continue to use your content even if you remove it from the app.
You give up moral rights and the right to control how your face or voice is used.
You can’t sue them in a group or class action.
All legal issues must go through private arbitration in specific regions like Singapore or California.
Many creators are worried that their work including brand videos, personal content, and paid client projects could be reused without permission or credit.
This has caused growing concern among influencers, small business owners, and marketing teams who rely on the app.
Creators Speak Out
Across social media, users have called the update “unfair” and “shocking.” Some have begun looking for other platforms that respect content ownership.
In Nigeria and many other countries, where CapCut is widely used by small business owners and creatives, the update could affect thousands of users who may not have the legal support to understand or challenge such policies.

Start testing alternative platforms that give you full rights to your content.
Back up your videos in case you want to remove your data from CapCut later.
