Also, it edges out a strong roster of Nigerian heavyweights including Wizkid, Rema, Tems, and Asake.
This victory marks a major milestone in Tyla global music career and underscores the increasing recognition of South African talent on the world stage.
The event, held with grandeur, also saw American pop icon Billie Eilish emerge as the night’s biggest winner.
Billie Eilish swept all seven categories in which she was nominated.
Billie Eilish takes home prestigious honours such as Artiste of the Year, Album of the Year for her critically acclaimed project Hit Me Hard and Soft, and Song of the Year for the emotional track Birds of a Feather.
In the country music category, global superstar Beyoncé continued to break boundaries by winning Favourite Female Country Artiste and Favourite Country Album for her genre-blending project Cowboy Carter.
Post Malone also made a strong showing in the same genre, taking home the award for Favourite Male Country Artiste, a nod to his successful crossover into country music.
